Marram grass plays a vital role in the process of dune formation, capturing sand and enabling dunes to grow. Marram grass can therefore be used as an indicator for sand dune health.
Project partner Ghent University have developed a tool showing marram grass cover and distribution. They further illustrate how marram grass cover relates with marram grass health, dune resilience (via computer modelling) and biodiversity data.
A presentation by Ghent University on how the tool can be used can be found on our YouTube Channel.
