HHNK is a water authority in the north west of the Netherlands including Texel (Wadden island). HHNK is responsible for management and maintenance of 80 km of dunes along the Dutch coast.
These dunes are an important part of the primary flood defence in the Netherlands. By participating in the project HHNK hopes to optimize management and maintenance to ENsure DUne REsilience.
HHNK is responsible Work Package 2 that helps 2 Seas stakeholders to understand and apply ecosystem-based management techniques. Previously the focus was on hard engineering approaches, but within our part of the project tools will be developed that help stakeholders to become more familiar with nature-based solutions. Our main focus is on an infrastructure assessment tool that can indicate the impact of buildings on dune development.
